ANSWER
I am really into comedy movies because they make me get away from stress and let off steam. After seeing this topic, Stephen Chow comes to mind right now.
He is a Hong Kong actor, comedian, and director. Stephen Chow is a middle-aged man with short black hair and a distinctive smile. He often appears in his movies with a funny and quirky demeanor, and he has a unique style of comedic acting that I find very entertaining. He is known for his exaggerated facial expressions and physical comedy, which always manage to make me laugh.
Stephen Chow is primarily known for appearing in comedy films, although he has also acted in a few serious roles as well. Some of his most well-known movies include “Kung Fu Hustle”, “The King of Comedy, and “The Mermaid”. In these movies, he usually plays a lovable underdog character who must overcome various obstacles to achieve his goals, all while making the audience laugh loudly.
The reason why I admire Stephen Chow is because of his incredible talent as a comedian and his ability to make people laugh. I always find myself smiling and laughing out loud while watching his movies, even if I’ve seen them before.
Furthermore, Stephen Chow’s movies often convey a deeper message or social context, often addressing important issues such as poverty, inequality, and corruption in a way that is both humorous and thought-provoking. He has a reputation for being a generous and kind person off-screen as well, which has helped to further endear him to his fans.
Overall, Stephen Chow’s talent, charm, and ability to make people laugh have earned him a dedicated following of fans around the world, and he is widely regarded as one of the most influential and beloved comedians in Asian cinema.

George (English US)
- What types of programs do you find funny on TV?
Personally, I do not watch TV that much, though once this has been a great source of entertainment for me. On average, I watch TV for 5–10 hours a week. I find reality TV shows, comedy TV series, and celebrity talk shows quite funny and entertaining.
I consider comedy shows the most interesting. I really admire comedians because of their great sense of humor. They can easily make others laugh with their stories. Whenever I watch them, I can get away from stress. It is really helpful.
- What kind of things make you laugh?
As the saying goes, laughter is a great medicine, and I also believe it.
Talking to my husband is really fun. He’s really hilarious. He always tells funny jokes or stories.
Also, watching comedy shows makes me laugh easily because of the great sense of humor comedians have.
Finally, playing with children, especially toddlers, also makes me happy, as they are really naïve and do some funny things.
- Are there comedy shows (either live or on TV) in your country?
Yes, of course. I would say most of the TV shows in my country these days are comedy or at least have some comedic aspects to them, namely, Crack Them Up and Thank God You’re Here.
I would even say this is the golden age for Vietnamese comedy TV shows.
As for live plays, we do have the Ngày Xửa Ngày Xưa shows, which can be translated to “Once upon a time”, These shows gear toward children by telling world-famous fairy tales that have been adapted for Vietnamese children. Because they are for very young audiences, the plays tend to be funny and make kids laugh a lot.
- Can someone use humor to learn another language?
Yes, I’m a firm believer that humor is helpful when it comes to language.
I remember myself watching countless hours of sit-com series like Friends and How I Met Your Mother. The comedy in these series was light and easy to understand; it provided me with contexts and stories to follow while I was trying to absorb the colloquial spoken English.
And in class, I reckon that funny and comic pictures also help when I study dull grammar lessons.
- Do you like movies or TV shows that make you laugh?
Sure, I love movies that are funny and silly. I’m not really a big fan of sad or dramatic films. When I’m watching a movie, I just want to be able to switch off my brain and enjoy a funny story without having to pay attention to the plot too much.
- Do you think having a sense of humor is important? Why/why not?
I think it’s very essential. Life is full of stress.
In my opinion, being able to make people laugh can make a big difference in our lives. Telling jokes can brighten someone’s mood if they’re feeling down in the dumps.
Also, if we can laugh at ourselves, it shows that we don’t take ourselves too seriously, which will make us more like able to other people.
