George (English US)

What type of website is it?

How did you find out about it?

What does it allow you to do?

And why do you find it useful?

ANSWER

We are currently living in the era of 4.0, which means there are countless websites available for us to access and expand our knowledge, as well as gain interesting experiences.  I use a lot of websites, especially social networking sites. However, after going through this topic, Facebook comes to my mind.

I remember vividly that nearly 10 years ago, my close friend Mai recommended this website and encouraged me to create an account to get in touch with other people. I found it fascinating and fun. So I created my account on my own because I know a lot of my friends use Facebook as well.

Facebook is free of charge, and it’s one of the best media for communication. It can help me connect to different people from all around the world, as almost every person uses it. More importantly, I can contact my friends that I lost touch with for a long time.

I can chat with my parents or close relatives, so I can see them at any time, every single day. It’s so convenient and absolutely free. Which is really great for us.

It also can keep me updated with the latest news happening around the world and expand my mind.

I believe that it’s also a great way to entertain because I really enjoy watching some funny videos through their posts. It helps me to let off steam, reduce stress, and recharge my batteries.

As a matter of fact, I couldn’t imagine how my life would be boring without Facebook.

  1. What are the advantages of the Internet?

In my opinion, there are multiple advantages to the Internet.

Firstly, we can communicate with many people from around the world.

Secondly, sharing information, knowledge, and learning is easier than ever.

We also entertain ourselves by watching movies, and videos, playing games, and listening to music to get away from stress.

  1. What are some of the dangers associated with using the internet?

From my point of view, there is so much risk for both adults and children. Social networking can cause problems for anyone.

For example, children can be exposed to inappropriate content that has violence or sexual references, which is not good for them.

For adults, it can distract them, disrupt their sleep, and expose them to bullying /ˈbʊliɪŋ/, rumor spreading, unrealistic views of other people’s lives, and peer pressure.

  1. Do you think children and young people are likely to be more vulnerable to these dangers?

Definitely, I reckon that they are quite naïve, and they tend to believe what they hear or see without questioning why.

For example, if they are chatting with someone who pretends to be a good person and asks them to meet up somewhere, it could have unpredictable consequences like kidnapping or sexual violence.

  1. Do you think parents can do something to protect their children from these threats?

Absolutely. There are many different ways that parents can help their kids be safe online.

First, parents should put the computer in a commonplace, not in their bedroom, so they can keep an eye on their children’s activities.

Second, talk openly with their children about some dangers on the internet so they can know what they do and don’t do.

Next, parents must have a good relationship with children and encourage their children to tell them anything strange or unusual about them.

Last but not least, we can block some sites that are not appropriate for children until they are old enough to understand.

  1. Do you think children should not be allowed to use the Internet?

What I meant was that children need to be aware of the dangers so they don’t share passwords with anyone or don’t respond to rude messages.

  1. Do you think there is more to expect from the internet? Do you feel it has reached its full potential?

Honestly speaking, the internet still has a long way to go. I don’t know exactly what else is to come, but I am sure there’s much more to be expected since I just mentioned the benefits of using the internet. It will be years before it reaches its full potential.
